Fairfax County Parks, Loudoun County Parks and Recreation, Arlington County, and dozens of HOA communities are actively adding dedicated pickleball courts or converting underutilized tennis courts to accommodate surging demand. A regulation pickleball court measures 20 feet wide by 44 feet long — roughly a quarter the size of a tennis court — with a 7-foot non-volley zone (the "kitchen") on each side of the net. Proper kitchen line placement is the single most critical measurement in pickleball court striping because it governs the fundamental rule that defines the sport's strategy and gameplay.
We handle two primary pickleball court configurations. Dedicated courts get full regulation markings on a standalone surface — ideal for facilities building new courts from scratch or resurfacing existing courts exclusively for pickleball. Overlay conversions add pickleball lines to existing tennis courts, turning one tennis court into up to four pickleball courts depending on available space. Overlay jobs require contrasting line colors so players can distinguish pickleball boundaries from tennis lines without confusion during play — typically blue or green pickleball lines over white or yellow tennis lines.
Every pickleball court we stripe includes properly dimensioned service courts (right and left), centerline, baseline, sidelines, and the non-volley zone on both sides of the net. For multi-court installations, we plan court spacing with adequate buffer zones between adjacent courts — USA Pickleball recommends a minimum 30x60 foot footprint per court including overrun space to prevent player collisions during competitive play. We also install net post anchor markings and centerline indicators to ensure consistent net placement for portable net systems used at many recreational facilities.
Surface condition directly impacts pickleball court line longevity and player safety. Cracked or uneven asphalt creates tripping hazards and causes premature line wear where paint bridges surface gaps.
